The probability of duplicating an aspect pattern of this complexity by planet and sign is very slight. Since the GQs of 2004 are members of the Saturn/Uranus/Pluto grouping I have listed below the others containing those three planets. The GQ of August 14, 1269 is based on a Saturn/Uranus/Pluto golden yod with two out of the three same signs as 2004.
As set out in the following tables, 8 GQs consist of the same 5 (or 6) planets as that of October 1st, 2004 and 5 consist of the same planets as that of October 28th. The GQs of April, 1226 and December, 098 are members of both groups.
For further fine-tuning, the GQs with the same sign composition as those of 2004 are broken down below by planet. Those that are roughly similar but have one planet out-of-sign by comparison to our upcoming GQs have been included.
Although there is not a single sample in the present database identical by both sign and planet to the 2004 GQs, there are two clusters in the 1500s and 1600s that approximate them by zodiac degree. These are the best we have available for historical correlation. They occurred on August 10, 1551, April 12, 1552, September 23, 1552, November 7, 1617, August 29, 1618, September 25, 1618 and October 28-29, 1618. The three outer planets are present in all of them.
In the series from the 1600s it is interesting to note that Pluto was in Taurus and the Moon in Sagittarius, in exact reversal of our upcoming GQs. The GQ of October 28-29 is one of those rare examples in which the Moon, although conjoining one of the points of the pentangle for a few hours, is not necessary for the pattern to exist.
After the events of this coming fall have unfolded we will have an excellent opportunity for comparing two time periods notable for their fifth harmonic energy. In fact, the mid-to-late Renaissance, the crossover point to the modern era, has more to offer than GQs. A brief look at other major aspect patterns over the duration of the database reveals that the 16th century is impressive not only for GQs but also for prolonged T-squares, grand crosses and mystic rectangles.
It is the single most striking time period for these configurations since at least the beginning of the Common Era. This merits extensive further study that I hope these GQs will inspire. These pentagrams are just an example of the work waiting to be done on major aspect patterns. The beautiful and richly symbolic grand sextile (the "Harmonic Concordance") that occurred under a lunar eclipse on November 8, 2003 is a case in point, bringing three issues to the fore. First, should Chiron or the asteroids be included in studies of this nature; second, how wide an orb should be allowed; and third (as with the second GQ), would anything of note be demonstrable without the eclipse?
Grand sextiles are truly rare. If you allow an orb of more than 4 degrees for the external ring of sextiles, the internal pattern of oppositions and trines will not hold without resorting to wider and wider orbs. If you insist on less than 4 degrees you will find very few (with or without Chiron) in the last 2000 years. The most stunning grand sextile in recent centuries took place on March 22, 1726. Here it is in all its glory:
Our work is cut out for us if we wish to take this exploration further!
